**EVENT IS RAIN OR SHINE**
Teach2Serve is a high school program at Solebury School that aims to inspire and train students interested in finding solutions to problems they see in the world. This year, the students' focus is on gun safety and encouraging dialogue about how we can all work together to reduce gun violence. It is our belief that no one should feel unsafe in their schools and communities. Teach2Serve is organizing a 5K (3.1 miles) run/walk (and one-mile fun run for kids) on Solebury School's campus on Sunday, October 28 to raise awareness about gun safety and to raise funds for the nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund (separate from the Action Fund arm of Everytown, which endorses candidates). There will also be informational booths and presenters after the run/walk.
Registration will begin at 8:30am, the race will begin at 9:00am, and the presenters will begin at 10:00am. There will also be a kids' fun run; kids are encouraged to dress up in a costume.
Teach2Serve strongly encourages individuals who register to find sponsors (friends, family, neighbors!) in order to stimulate dialogue, raise awareness, provide the opportunity for those who cannot attend the event to support the cause, and maximize the donation to Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund. The sponsorship form can be found here and you should record the names of sponsors, collect the money/checks, and turn it in at the event registration on Oct.28.
Prizes at the event will be given to: (1) the person who receives the most number of sponsors on their sponsorship form and (2) the person who raises the most amount of money through their sponsorship form. Medals/Ribbons will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place 5K finishers in the following age groups: 30 and under, 31-50, 51 and over.
Donations raised will go directly to Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund which "seeks to improve our understanding of the causes of gun violence and the means to reduce it – by conducting groundbreaking original research, developing evidence-based policies, and communicating this knowledge in the courts and the court of public opinion."
